The dam will be constructed across River Tana approximately 186 kilometers Northwest of Lamu Town to hold approximately 5.6 billion cubic meters of water for water supply, irrigation and power generation estimated at 700MW. It is intended to provide long-term efficient supply of water and power to Lamu Port City and will also improve port business through irrigated agriculture and improved livestock management due to adequate availability of water.
